Adding garnet abrasives to the waterjet application not only has a smooth cut surface, but also improves the accuracy. There is no limit to the thickness of the plate. Currently, there are three types of commonly used waterjet cutting abrasives on the market: 60# garnet sand, 80# garnet sand, and 120# garnet sand, which correspond to different cutting materials.
If the waterjet is equipped with 60# garnet as abrasive, it can be used for cutting stone, rubber, wood, etc., and the cutting speed is also significantly improved, but may reduce the cutting surface accuracy. And more used is still 80 # garnet, it can achieve a perfect balance in the cutting speed and cutting surface accuracy for carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium and other materials cutting.
In contrast, 120# garnet sand can meet the requirements of high precision and very low cutting surface tolerance, and is suitable for the cutting of materials such as glass and semiconductors. It seems that waterjet cutting abrasive as the most used consumable for waterjet cutting has a positive effect on improving the cutting quality.
